Have you heard of hyperthyroidism?
I wanted to talk about some medical challenge that cats can suffer from - hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism.
In terms of behaviour, signs of could be:
Behaviour changes
Bowel challenges outside the tray
Restlessness
From a health perspective, signs can include:
Lethargy
Changes in weight and appetite
Increase or lower water consumption
Lower body temperature.
The thyroid gland is located in a cat's neck. It produces hormones. When it is unable to produce these hormones, then a cat could be diagnosed with an under-active thyroid.
In terms of hyperthyroidism excessive amounts mean a cat can have an overactive thyroid. An overactive thyroid can cause heart disease.
Behaviour challenges can include:
Increased activity
Reactive behaviour - biting etc
From a health perspective signs could be:
A coat that is dull
Weight loss even though more is being eaten
